Frequently Asked Questions
What are the library hours?
Current Library Hours:
8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
How Do I get a library card?
Blue Ridge Community College issues college ID cards to students and staff that also serve as your library card. You can get a college ID card at the College Bookstore. Then bring your new BRCC ID card to the library so we can activate your card in the library's database.
With your library-activated photo ID card you can check out materials and reserve study space. Please note, you must present your card each time you wish to check out any library materials.
Continuing education students, as well as Henderson and Transylvania County residents can also get library cards by filling out an application at the library circulation desk. Borrowing privileges for those two groups are different from curriculum student privileges. Contact the library at 828-694-1879 for more details.
How many items can I check out and how long can I keep them?
- Limit of 10 items checked out at a time
- General Collection books: three-week check out, one renewal
- Feature Films: two DVDs for one week, no renewals (this is included in the 10-item limit)
- Audio Books: two audio books for three weeks, one renewal
- Magazines: three magazines (except current issues) one week, no renewal

Overdue fines are $0.10 per day for books; $0.25 per day for DVDs.
Important: You must have your library card with you to check out library materials. There are no exceptions.
How can I renew my books?
Books can be renewed at the circulation desk or over the phone. You do not have to bring your books with you to renew in person. You cannot renew feature film DVDs, or items that have been requested by another patron.
What is your cellphone policy?
We ask that you respect those around you and keep your phones on silent while in the library. If you receive a call, please take it in the hallway outside the library.
Can I print, scan, or fax in the library?
Yes. The library has 14 computers available for use, and students doing research have priority. Printing from a computer or making copies costs $0.10 per page; scanning is free. Students may use their moodle log-in credentials to access their student printing accounts. Community patrons may pay-per-print.
We are not able to send faxes, but our Print Shop located in the Killian building has that capability.
How do I access the wireless network in the library?
Wireless access is available throughout the library and the rest of campus. No access code is required to use the wireless network on your own laptop computer. You are required, however, to accept the college terms and conditions for use.
How do I access NC LIVE or other databases from off-campus?
Each current student and faculty or staff person can access NC LIVE or other library resources with their Moodle or Active Directory username and password. If you have trouble, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 694-1879 for assistance.
Where can I find a quiet place to study in the library?
We have three group study rooms that seat from 4-6 people. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and a BRCC ID is required to reserve. Reservations can be made online from the library website using your BRCC email address. If you encounter a problem with noise in the library, please ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk.
Food and drink guidelines
You may bring library-friendly drinks and snacks to the library. Covered drinks--travel mugs or other containers with screw-top lids--are library friendly. Snack items such as packaged crackers, cookies, pretzels, granola bars, nuts, raisins, M & Ms, etc. are allowed when consumed responsibly. Fast food items or meals from any outside vendor, including the cafeteria, must be eaten outside. When you leave, throw away or pack out your snack and drink trash. You can also recycle your plastic drink bottles in containers located just outside the library.
