Registrar Tutorials

WebAdvisor is a real-time system that allows students to access the following information:

  • course offerings
  • grades
  • transcripts
  • class availability
  • assigned advisor
  • register and or drop/add classes
  • make payments
  • check Financial Aid
  • and other information

*Please make sure you are using either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. WebAdvisor is not compatible with Internet Explorer or Safari, especially for the log-in process.*

The only time WebAdvisor should be accessed without logging in, is when you are "searching for sections." All other information can only be accessed if you are logged in.

How to Log-In to WebAdvisor - First-Time Users

*You must have a valid email address on file with the Registrar’s Office before proceeding!*

  1. Go to the BRCC homepage at www.blueridge.edu
    1. Or, you may type http://online.blueridge.edu in your browser and skip the second step
  2. Look in the upper left corner and select the “WA” button
  3. Once at the WebAdvisor home page, go to the bottom right and click “I’m new to WebAdvisor”
  4. The next page previews to you the four step process-click “OK”
  5. Type in your last name AND either your social security number or student ID
    1. The social security number does not require dashes or spaces
  6. The next screen will provide you with your username - be sure to write it down!
    1. If there are numbers at the end of the username, these are required as well
  7. Beneath the username is a drop-down box to select your email
    1. Select the email you wish to receive your temporary password at and hit “Submit”
    2. If no email is showing, you will need to contact the Registrar’s Office (828-694-1811) and submit your email address in writing with an attached signature
  8. After hitting submit, please check your email account for the temporary password from “Datatel” - be sure to “copy” the password
    1. If the email is not received in your inbox within approximately five to 10 minutes, check your Junk or Spam mail folders
  9. Once the password is retrieved, you may then click “Log In” from the WebAdvisor home page
  10. Enter your username and paste your password
  11. Once the system accepts the temporary password, it will tell you the information has expired
    1. Re-enter your username and re-paste your password
    2. Your unique password must contain no less than six characters and no more than nine, with both letters and numbers
    3. The password hint helps you to remember your password in the future
  12. After submitting your information, you will be relocated to the WebAdvisor home page, and it should say “Welcome (Your Name)”

How to Log-In to WebAdvisor - Returning Users

BRCC will never restrict access to students simply because you are no longer a BRCC student. As long as you still have a valid email address on file, you can still access your information.

However, if you have forgotten your log-in information, you may follow half of the process above to retrieve your username, or the entire four steps to reset your password as well.

Students who owe a monetary balance to the school, or are on disciplinary probation, will still be able to log-in to WebAdvisor, but will not be able to access their information.

How to View Your Student Profile

The Student Profile in WebAdvisor reflects the information that is on file with the Registrar’s Office at BRCC.

*Please make sure you are using either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. WebAdvisor is not compatible with Internet Explorer or Safari.*

  1. Go to www.blueridge.edu and select the “WA” button in the top left corner
    1. Or, simply type http://online.blueridge.edu into your browser
  2. Log-in to WebAdvisor
  3. Click on the “Students” tab
  4. Under the “Academic Profile” section, click the link for “My profile”
  5. There’s your information!
    1. This is also a great way to access your student ID number

If the information located on this screen is incorrect, please contact the Registrar’s Office (828-694-1811) for instruction on how to change your information.

No personal information can be changed without your physical signature!

How to Search for Sections Using WebAdvisor

Searching for Sections using WebAdvisor is the only process within WebAdvisor that does not require you to be logged-in.

  2. Click on the “Students” tab
  3. Under the “Registration” section, click the link “Search for Sections”
  4. Change the “Term” box to the current or upcoming term needed
    1. If you are searching for Curriculum classes, do not select anything with “Continuing Educ”
  5. Go to the “Subjects” column and select within the first row a subject you are interested in
    1. For example, English classes are ENG. Math classes are typically MAT.
  6. If you do not know the class level or section numbers, you may leave those blank and hit “Submit”
    1. If you do know the course number, you may select that information under the “Course Number” column-for example, 111 for ENG 111
    2. You may search for multiple departments and/or classes at one time
    3. If you leave the section column blank, that will show every section offered for the Department and/or Course Number you selected
  7. Do not input any information below the “Subjects, Course Levels, Course Number, and Section” boxes
    1. This confuses the system and will make searching for sections more difficult
  8. After hitting submit, the system will populate every class that we offer for that particular semester according to the information you selected
    1. Pay close attention to the “Location” column to determine if the course is at the Henderson County Campus, Transylvania Campus, a distance-learning campus, or fully online
    2. Be sure to check out the “Available/Capacity” column to see how many seats are still “Available” in the course
  9. If you are unsure of all the days and times of a course, click on the course link in blue
    1. This will take you to a pop-up screen (or second tab) that shows you all of the available class dates and times.

How to Register for Courses Using WebAdvisor

In order to register for classes using WebAdvisor, the student must first meet with their Advisor. The Advisor will then release a “hold” on your account. Until that “hold” is released, a student cannot register themselves using WebAdvisor.

If you are a “Special Credit” student, meaning you are not seeking a degree with BRCC, you may register yourself using WebAdvisor without seeing an Advisor first. (All pre-requisites must be on file with the Registrar’s Office and posted to the system prior to Special Credit registration.)

Once the “hold” is removed from the student’s account, you must then “Search for Sections” (using WebAdvisor) to determine your desired class schedule. Three pieces of information are required prior to registering with WebAdvisor: the Department (example, ENG), the course number (example, 111), and the section number (example, 201).

*Please make sure you are using either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. WebAdvisor is not compatible with Internet Explorer or Safari.*

  1. Go to www.blueridge.edu and select the “WA” button in the top left corner
    1. Or, simply type http://online.blueridge.edu into your browser
  2. Log-in to WebAdvisor
  3. Click on the “Students” tab
  4. Under the “Registration” section, click the link “Register for Sections”
    1. “Register and Drop Sections” should only be used if you are dropping part/all of your classes
  5. On the next page, select the link “Express Registration”
  6. Once on the “Express Registration” page, enter the following information:
    1. Ignore the “Synonym” column (this is the course ID, which is not necessary)
    2. Select the “Department”-ENG (for English)
    3. Enter the “Course Number”-111 (for ENG 111)
    4. Enter the “Section Number”-201 (for ENG 111 201)
    5. Under “Term,” use the drop down arrow to select the upcoming term
      1. For Curriculum registration, do not select any terms with the words “Continuing Educ”
  7. After reviewing your desired schedule (you can enter several lines at a time), click “Submit”
  8. The next page will preview to you your next semester’s schedule
    1. If there is a schedule at the bottom of the page under “Current Registrations,” leave this section alone as it represents the courses you are currently enrolled in
  9. If the next semester’s classes look correct, go to the box that says “Action for ALL Pref. Sections” and select “RG Register”
    1. If you accidentally put a class on your schedule that you do not need, do not select the register option for all preferred sections
    2. Beside each individual course under the “Action” column, select “Register” for the ones you wish to keep, and “Remove from list” the courses you wish to remove
  10. Go to the bottom of the page and select “Submit”
  11. If all pre-requisites are met, and there are no scheduling conflicts, the final page is your actual schedule for the upcoming semester

Your schedule information (once finalized) can always be reviewed under the “Students” tab in the “Academic Profile” section, by clicking the “My class schedule” link. Once you select that link, you will choose the semester you registered for to preview your schedule.
