Discover Diversity Week 2017

 

Blue Ridge Community College Discover Diversity Week is a series of events at to promote an awareness of diversity and a greater understanding of global issues.

 

All events are open to the public.

Discover Diversity Week is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) Inclusive Education Committee and BRCC Educational Foundation. Discover Diversity Week is also supported by a planning grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council.

Monday, March 13

Heritage food tasting skillet serving utensils and food

Discover Diversity Day at TCC - Heritage Food Tasting
Transylvania County Campus

11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
TRCS Room 140

Celebrate regional and international food on the Transylvania County Campus. Student, faculty, staff, and local restaurants will be donating samples of their most creative and inspired dishes.

Free admission.

4 x 4 International Film Festival
12:00 to 1:30 p.m.

Last year's 8x8 International Film Fest was so successful we're cutting it in half!! Sound strange? Not really. This year, Blue Ridge Community College students, representing our diverse campus, will choose four international animated films designed to promote discussion about our world--what pulls us apart and what draws us together. So this year the Inclusive Education Committee presents The 4x4 International Film Fest, four great films with room for discussion in between. Popcorn, anybody?

Jasmine Beach-Ferrara portrait

Keynote Speaker: Jasmine Beach-Ferrara

Raised in North Carolina, Jasmine Beach-Ferrara is a minister in the United Church of Christ. She is a graduate of Brown University and received a MFA from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College and a MDiv from Harvard Divinity School. She has worked on LGBT rights campaigns since 2004 and founded the Campaign for Southern Equality in 2011. She is currently a Democratic candidate for Buncombe County Commission in District 1. Jasmine and her wife, Meghann, live in Asheville, NC, with their son.

Free admission.

The keynote address will be broadcast live to the TCC Campus.
