All students are assigned an Academic Advisor, with the exception of College Transfer Students and Special Credit Non-Degree Seeking Students.
The Academic Advisor is usually a faculty member from your program of study. Your Advisor was listed in your admissions letter.
- Advise you on how many courses to take and when to take them.
- Assist you in understanding how to use WebAdvisor.
- Serve as a guide and resource for assisting you in mapping out their educational career.
- Set up an Educational Plan. An Educational Plan is a list of Advisor-approved courses which a student may register for, for the next semester. The Educational Plan will change each semester. It can be found in WebAdvisor.
How do I find out who is my advisor?
Your advisor was listed in your admissions letter. You can also look up your advisor in WebAdvisor, by clicking on the “Student Tab” and click on the “My Profile” link under “Academic Profile.”
If you are a College Transfer student in either Associate of Science or Associate of Arts, you will not have an individual person assigned as your Academic Advisor. You will need to meet with an Advisor in the College Transfer Academic Advising Center located in the Sink Building, Room 136.
How do I locate my Advisor's Office and their Office Hours?
All Campus faculty have posted office hours. These hours are posted outside their offices, listed on their syllabus, and online.
Preparing for an Advising Session
Step 1: Know what courses are required for your program of study
- Program of study (major) requirements can be found in the College Catalog. Catalogs are available online or from Student Services in the Sink Building.
- Program Counselors in Student Services, or Faculty Advisors, can provide information on course requirements or specific admission requirements for all programs of study.
- Information is also available on WebAdvisor under "Academic Planning," click “Program Evaluation”
Step 2: Know what courses you have already taken
- This information can be found in your WebAdvisor account.
- Under the “Students” tab and “Academic Profile,” click on "Transcript" - in the drop down box select CU Curriculum transcript.
- You should print a copy of this screen and take it with you to your advising appointment.
Step 3: Know what courses you need to take for the semester
- Using an up to date program evaluation, determine what courses you now need to take.
- Review the current semester course schedule, also available on WebAdvisor under "Search for Sections."
- Take this information with you to your advising session.
Step 4: Register for Classes
- Once your Advisor has removed the registration restriction from your student records, you can register for your classes using WebAdvisor.
- Check the Registration Dates webpage for more information about registration and payment deadlines.
- If you are an Associate of Arts or Associate in Science student, advising and registration is done in the College Transfer Academic Advising Center.
