Distance Learning Registration: Step-By-Step

Step-by-Step Curriculum Registration for Distance Learners
You've decided to take an online course and understand the requirements to do so -- now what? If you are strictly a Distance Learning student (i.e. not attending either Henderson County Campus or Transylvania County Campus for any curriculum courses), please follow these procedures carefully! Pay particular attention to dates and deadlines.

Applications

 

Distance Learning students follow the same admissions process as the traditional student and may apply to Blue Ridge Community College through WebAdvisor online, or by mail though the Student Application Form, or in person during early or regular registration.

Payment and fees for Fall priority and early registered students must be received on campus by Aug. 14 by 1:00 p.m., or your registration and schedule will be deleted. If you pay online, you may pay through midnight of Aug. 14. Please note: if you come to the Henderson County campus, the cashier's office has relocated to the SINK building lobby.

The Transylvania Campus cashier is at the Front Desk of the Straus Building. Mailed payments may go to: Blue Ridge Community College, Cashier's Office, 180 West Campus Drive, Flat Rock, NC 28731 and must be received before the Aug. 14 deadline.

Courses &
Eligibility

Search WebAdvisor to see if the course you wish to take is offered online, and that you meet any required prerequisite(s). At the top, select the "Term," and at the bottom, select "Academic Level: Curriculum" and "Location: Internet-Based Course" to see the entire list.  Click on the course name to see the description and prerequisites. Check WebAdvisor for current Distance Learning offerings: section 201, 202, 203 are online only; sections 301+ are hybrid with classroom time.

If you are Degree Seeking from BRCC, your faculty advisor should be able to assist you with this and you will need to communicate with them personally before you can register online.  Please note: If  BRCC does not have official copies of your transcripts, and no documentation of completed prerequisites, you will not be allowed to register for advanced level courses.

It is your responsibility to provide that documentation to the Registrar before registration.

Registration

After submitting applications, curriculum students may log into WebAdvisor and Register. Degree seeking students must meet with an advisor, non-degree seeking may register online. See dates and deadlines above. More information on the Registration Dates web page.

Payment

In WebAdvisor, log in and select "Account Summary" to view your tuition and fees. View all Registrar Tutorials at this link.

Click the "Make A Payment" link to pay your tuition. (Visa, Master Card, American Express only)

Payment Deadlines

Payment is due immediately upon receipt. Make check payable to BRCC and mail to:

Please note: If your payment is not received by Aug. 14 at 1:00 p.m., the names of those owing tuition and fees will be deleted from class rosters on Aug. 17. If you are deleted, you will need to contact your advisor during final registration to attempt to re-register for the class. Schedule Adjustment Day is Aug. 18, 2015 from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.  There are no guarantees that you will be able to get the same schedule.

Last day for 100% tuition refund is Aug. 18, 2015. Last day to drop classes with 75% refund is Aug. 28, 2015.

Financial Aid


It takes 4 - 6 weeks to process Financial Aid and/or Veterans benefits. If you apply for Financial Aid during late registration, you will need to make other arrangements for payment or risk having your schedule deleted.

Books

Textbooks may be ordered via the BRCC Bookstore's online website. You may request that the books be shipped to you by UPS (Saturday delivery is an extra charge) and you may pay for your books, plus shipping either with qualifying Financial Aid by entering your 7 digit student ID number, or by credit card, or with a Barnes & Noble gift card. Receipts required for any returns.

Or if you prefer, you may pick them up in person at the College Bookstore located in the Killian Building on the Henderson County Campus or in the Straus Building at the Transylvania County Campus. Website orders for pickup will go to the campus selected from "SELECT A CAMPUS" during your online order.

Moodle Login

Moodle accounts are set up approximately 24 hours after you register for an online, hybrid, or web-based course. All students who complete priority or early registration will receive a letter and an email with instructions. If you still cannot access your online courses by the end of the first day of classes, please contact the BRCC Help Desk at 828-694-1895. Student Email

You will need to first set up your Moodle account, wait 10 minutes, then set up your BRCC student email, also known as "webmail". Actually, it is a "Google Apps for Education" account that gives you not only email, but storage on Google Drive, a calendar, and the Google version of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Directions for set up are on the Moodle login page and in the Student Guide to Moodle.

Orientations

If you live near Hendersonville or Brevard, it would greatly benefit you to attend a "Face-to-Face" Orientation which covers many of the specific questions concerning Moodle. The online version is available once you have registered for classes and set up your Moodle account. All students are enrolled into MORIENT, the online version.

How to Begin Class

  • Wait until the classes are scheduled to start before you attempt to log in to your course.
  • Instructors are required to have their courses available by the second day of the drop/add period.
  • Do not call until after that date with problems concerning logging in to your course(s).
  • E-mail your instructor(s) to let them know that you have activated your BRCC WebMail Account and let them know your accounts are set up and that you are looking forward to the course(s). "TBA" on your schedule does not mean you should wait to login.
  • If you have never taken an online course in Moodle, we strongly urge you to download and read the Student Guide to Moodle which will guide you through all aspects of using the technology for your online course.
